This paper attempts to evaluate a teaching textbook used in the Greek Merchant Marine Center of Further Education: School Mechanics. The evaluation considers adult learners’ needs and practices prescribed this institution. has been for long time and, though it includes proper ESP knowledge, is considered need embellishment satisfy growing needs, especially as concerns engineering vocabulary. research question mainly investigates whether helps learners their practice receptive productive language skills both general English Specific Purposes use. Following checklist criteria, internal external took place. It was found that very plain unattractive by learners. Though main vocabulary grammar necessary learners, does not include material pronunciation practice. Furthermore, offer enough practise all four skills. present activities practicing use or writing. There also lack participatory tasks like group teamwork. findings contribute field because they could help embellish with more communicative open-ended activities, which would motivate, interest, engage more. purposeful technical be aiding mechanics training work merchant navy vessels.
